Bad Monkey is a TV show that could serve as the definition of “no one asked for this.” Based on the comedic crime thrillers of Carl Hiassen, the TV adaptation fails to capture the propulsive feeling of a mystery you feel the need to devour in a single sitting – regardless of how well-written you think it actually is. At one point, near the end of Bad Monkey‘s first episode, the series’ narrator (Tom Nowicky, giving 90s A & E crime documentary vibes), tells the audience.”It feels like we’re coming to the end of our story, but it’s really just the beginning.” Oh, how true those words are, but not in the way the narrator means! This show feels like it should have been terminated after execs screened its boring pilot, but instead, they made more for reasons I cannot comprehend.
